Purchasing your home will require a lot of money but once you’ve finally signed the papers, you can be proud and confident that you did everything you can to build your very own house.
Once your house has been constructed and it is ready for you to move in, the next thing that you need to think about is beautifying your home.
Fortunately for you, I happen to have the knowledge bestowed to me by some of the best designers in some of the top interior designing firms in Malaysia. Read on to find out what they are so that you can apply the knowledge that you learn here in your own home.
Use Your Furniture’s Color as a Guide
Your walls should only serve to accentuate what color furniture you are going to place inside your home. Therefore, it is a good rule of thumb to use the color of your furniture as your guide.
For example, if your furniture uses a dark brown color scheme, then perhaps putting beige or lighter brown colors would do wonders.
What if you have different color furniture? Well, it would be best to group your furniture up so that one room uses a certain color and another uses another.
Hang Your Paintings the Right Way
So, you’ve bought some really nice paintings from your local art gallery and you want to showcase them by putting them on your walls. But, how would you do it exactly that will give the best results?
Well, it is important that you hang your paintings the right way. You do that by placing them just at eye level so that people can marvel at their beauty.
A good rule of thumb would be to measure 57 inches from the ground since that is considered to be the average human eye level.
Don’t Go Overboard with Your Theme
You might have some interior design magazines where you can draw some inspiration from, but it is important that you follow the theme that you like and make it your own. For example, following a rustic cabin look might feel too generic since it is a common look. But, you may pick apart some design aspects that you can use and place your
paintings and other artworks instead to make it truly your own.
Don’t Rely Too Much on Overhead Lighting
Most homes rely heavily on a single light source and it is usually placed above the head. Instead of relying solely on overhead lighting, place one strong light source at the ceiling and accentuate it with wall sconces or lamps.
Don’t Forget to Put Some Mirrors
Ideally, you want to place a mirror in every room. That is because mirrors can help reflect light which will make any room so much brighter. Just make sure to put it perpendicular to a light source and not directly across it.
Arrange Your Furniture the Right Way
When you are placing your couch and chairs in your living room, make sure that you put them in a U-shaped position so that it invites conversation.
Use the Right-sized Rug
When using area rugs, make sure that all of your furniture’s legs can fit on it. If that is not possible, just make sure that at least the front legs sit on it. If you use one that doesn’t fit, it will look unappealing.
